Sr. Product Designer

About this role

P-1626 Senior Product Designer At Databricks, we design tools that make complex data and AI workflows intuitive and powerful. Our mission is to simplify how data is connected, understood, and activated so organizations can turn information into business outcomes. Designers at Databricks combine strong visual craft with systems thinking. They shape products used by some of the most advanced data teams in the world, and increasingly by the business users and AI agents working alongside them. We're hiring Product Designers to join our design team and own design for an area of the Databricks Platform. Teams span the platform, from data engineering and analytics to databases, apps, and AI agents. We match each designer to the area where their skills and interests will have the most impact. You'll design for both technical and business users of data, making powerful capabilities feel clear, controllable, and trustworthy for enterprise customers. The impact you will have • Own your area end to end. Sharpen the problem, set the design direction, and carry the work from framing and interaction models through visual polish and shipped detail. • Set the quality bar. Make the critical design decisions in your area, review work from designers, PM, engineering, and AI tools, and have the hands-on skill to improve it yourself. • Advocate with evidence. Stay in regular contact with customers, choose research methods that fit the decision, and turn research into insights others can act on. • Show the experience got better. Define what success looks like for the key tasks users need to get done, and show the improvement through usability testing, research, and how people actually use what shipped. • Influence through the work. Move product and engineering decisions with prototypes, keep design reviews focused, and communicate clearly in writing and in person. • Prototype to explore and align. Use interactive prototypes as a primary thinking tool to explore ambiguous problems, reduce risk, and align the team on a direction. • Design directly in the codebase with coding agents. Use AI coding agents to ship well-scoped design changes alongside engineers, rather than handing off static mocks. • Define reusable UX principles. Create interaction patterns and frameworks other teams reuse, and drive consistency through a strong, cross-platform design system. • Raise the level of critique. Give and invite high-quality feedback, and help make clear decisions together with product and engineering. What we look for • 5+ years of product design work experience. • A bachelor's or master's degree in design, computer science, human-computer interaction, or a related field. • A portfolio demonstrating your end-to-end design process, from inception to production. • Demonstrated ability to lead large and complex design projects and balance the needs of diverse stakeholders. • A systems thinker who has the vision to design the big picture, and the tactical ability to break it down so that engineering can succeed in building it incrementally. • A deep understanding of business goals, customer needs, emerging AI capabilities, and the evolving data and technology landscape. • Self-directed and comfortable in ambiguity. You help shape product direction when the path isn't defined. • Beautiful visual and interaction work rooted in a data-driven, well-researched UX process. Nice to have • Experience designing developer tools, data/analytics products, AI/ML products, or enterprise software. • Experience designing products that bridge the gap between technical and business users. • The strongest candidates have demonstrated experience using modern development and AI-assisted coding tools to prototype ideas, understand implementation tradeoffs, and collaborate deeply with engineering teams.
